Should Women be Paid as Much as Men in Soccer?

In later years there been a debate if women should earn as much as men in soccer. The top seven best-paid women soccer players are not even close to making as much as one of the best men’s soccer players in the world. Therefore, a lot of people have expressed their concern about the matter. My own opinion about the subject is that it shouldn’t be as big of a gap as it is right now, but, I still believe that men soccer players should be making a lot more money than women.

In men soccer, there is a lot of sponsors, fans, and people investing in the clubs. Because of that, more money could be spent on player salaries. People find it more exciting to watch men soccer, because of that more people are enrolled in men soccer. I agree that women soccer players should earn more then they do right now, but not as much as men. In other aspects and works in life, I think women should earn as much as men, but when it comes to soccer it’s hard to compare the revenue, between women and men soccer.

In the magazine, Business Insider, Shane Ferro explains the difference “There’s one big difference — revenue. Female soccer players are paid less because their sport makes less. According to the Wall Street Journal, there was $17 million in sponsor revenue for this year’s women’s World Cup compared to $529 million for the 2014 men’s tournament.” Therefore, it’s logic that they don’t make as much in men soccer. Hopefully, in the future, more sponsors will invest in women’s soccer as well and the gap will not be as big as today. Although in the time we live in today, I think its very hard to argue why women should be making as much without getting more sponsors to the sport.

Are Professional Soccer Players Getting Paid Too Much?

In recent years there been an evolution in the soccer world. Soccer players are getting paid enormous amount of money. The two best soccer players in the world, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are getting paid 111 million Euros and 108 million Euros a year. That is about $125 million and $121 million dollars. That is  Therefore, there have been a debate if  soccer players should be allowed to make that much money?

Soccer is the biggest sport in the world and therefore they should be paid good money, but I don’t think anyone is worth 111 million Euro for playing a sport. Although, I am huge fan of soccer I think there is much more important things in the world then playing soccer. There are other things where that money could be used instead, and that goes to every sport where gigantic salaries are being paid. That money could go to hospitals, doctors, and other important things in our society.

Soccer club have extremely much money, and they are competing against each other to attract the best players in the world. Therefore, I believe there should be a roof of how much each club in Europe should be allowed to spend on players. That will make it more competitive between each club and make it a lot more fun to watch soccer. Hopefully, this will be something that happens in the future.

Should Kids Play Competitive Soccer From a Young Age?

From a young age, I learned that you need to compete in life. The biggest aspect of that from my childhood was when I was playing soccer. Essentially, I started to play competitive soccer from the age of 10. Last year, the Swedish government decided that you should not be able to compete before the age of 13. In my case soccer, but it implicated to every sport in Sweden. This law upset a lot of people and started the debate if kids should be able to compete from a young age. By not competing, you are not allowed to have playoffs and count the score into a table. Instead, after you played the game the referee didn’t report the final score. The argument behind this was that sports should be fun, and not about competing at an early age. Personally, I thought the best thing about playing soccer was competing. That is what made it fun.

However, this view of sports hasn’t reached the United States yet. Here, everything is very competitive. I believe that is better. Because, in life, you are going to lose and win, and it is better if you get taught that at an early age. If you developed the ability to handle setbacks, you will have an easier time in life when dealing with stuff that will upset you. Also, when things are going your way, you will enjoy those moments more.

Is Technology Killing Soccer?

In later years, technology is becoming a bigger part of soccer. In the highest soccer leagues, you can find goal-line technology and VAR (Video Assistant Referee). The benefits are that there is a lower risk that a referee makes a mistake, but the flow of the game gets interrupted after every decision because the referee needs to go out and look at a screen to make a decision.

I do not believe that this is beneficial for the sport. Although, fewer mistakes are being made. It kills the thrill of the game, because of the interruptions that happen a couple of times a game. In the future, I think VAR could improve the game. But, they need to find ways to make it work better then it does right now. Today, you will have to wait a couple of minutes for every decision that will be taken by the video referee.

However, technology will be a bigger part of everything in life. I know that this will affect soccer as well, but I don’t want this to completely ruin the sport that I love.

Emiliano Sala; The search resumes

Sadly, about a week ago the Argentine soccer player Emiliano Sala and a pilot went down in an airplane in the English channel after traveling from France to Cardiff after signing with Cardiff FC. The search stopped after a few days because of the likelihood that they would still be alive were very slim.

However, the search is now back on after a lot of soccer players across the world donated money to keep the search going. Let’s hope for a miracle and Emiliano Sala gets home to his family.
