In later years there been a debate if women should earn as much as men in soccer. The top seven best-paid women soccer players are not even close to making as much as one of the best men’s soccer players in the world. Therefore, a lot of people have expressed their concern about the matter. My own opinion about the subject is that it shouldn’t be as big of a gap as it is right now, but, I still believe that men soccer players should be making a lot more money than women.
In men soccer, there is a lot of sponsors, fans, and people investing in the clubs. Because of that, more money could be spent on player salaries. People find it more exciting to watch men soccer, because of that more people are enrolled in men soccer. I agree that women soccer players should earn more then they do right now, but not as much as men. In other aspects and works in life, I think women should earn as much as men, but when it comes to soccer it’s hard to compare the revenue, between women and men soccer.
In the magazine, Business Insider, Shane Ferro explains the difference “There’s one big difference — revenue. Female soccer players are paid less because their sport makes less. According to the Wall Street Journal, there was $17 million in sponsor revenue for this year’s women’s World Cup compared to $529 million for the 2014 men’s tournament.” Therefore, it’s logic that they don’t make as much in men soccer. Hopefully, in the future, more sponsors will invest in women’s soccer as well and the gap will not be as big as today. Although in the time we live in today, I think its very hard to argue why women should be making as much without getting more sponsors to the sport.
