Should Kids Play Competitive Soccer From a Young Age?

From a young age, I learned that you need to compete in life. The biggest aspect of that from my childhood was when I was playing soccer. Essentially, I started to play competitive soccer from the age of 10. Last year, the Swedish government decided that you should not be able to compete before the age of 13. In my case soccer, but it implicated to every sport in Sweden. This law upset a lot of people and started the debate if kids should be able to compete from a young age. By not competing, you are not allowed to have playoffs and count the score into a table. Instead, after you played the game the referee didn’t report the final score. The argument behind this was that sports should be fun, and not about competing at an early age. Personally, I thought the best thing about playing soccer was competing. That is what made it fun.

However, this view of sports hasn’t reached the United States yet. Here, everything is very competitive. I believe that is better. Because, in life, you are going to lose and win, and it is better if you get taught that at an early age. If you developed the ability to handle setbacks, you will have an easier time in life when dealing with stuff that will upset you. Also, when things are going your way, you will enjoy those moments more.
